On the 27th October 2014, Pope Francis, exactly 1 year, 7 months & 14 days into his pontificate, unveiled a bust of the previous pontiff Pope Benedict XVI (see here), whom he had succeeded in March of 2013 the previous year. Francis went on and addressed the plenary assembly of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, which gathered at the Vatican to discuss “Evolving Concepts of Nature.” (see here)

Pope Benedict XVI had made statements that were, well, conflicting, to say the very least on the subject of evolution, that cherished ‘idol’ of naturalistic scientists. From saying that human beings were ‘not the product of evolution’…,

“We are not some casual and meaningless product of evolution. Each of us is the result of a thought of God. Each of us is willed, each of us is loved, each of us is necessary.” (source: https://www.vatican.va/content/benedict-xvi/en/homilies/2005/documents/hf_ben-xvi_hom_20050424_inizio-pontificato.html)

…to saying that there is much ‘scientific proof for evolution’
