(summary: Fr. Chris Alar pushes back on the Nostra Aetate anniversary: But has the horse already bolted? Is he living in a world that no longer exists?)
Father Chris Alar MIC (the Provincial Superior of the Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Conception – click here for source & more details), a notable figure in the Catholic Social Media space, especially on YouTube (whose Divine Mercy channel boasts 560,000 subscribers), joined John Henry Westen’s (JHW) on his Sign of the Cross Media YouTube video (Nov 01st 2025), where among a few things discussed was the Nostra aetate anniversary celebrations in the Vatican commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Vatican II document published in 1965.

(Above is the video by JHW and Fr. Chris Alar on YouTube)
JHW described the event, a ‘get-together’ of different religions & faiths, as “pretty strange stuff”, citing that he was “very disturbed” by the video made for the occasion by the Vatican. Commenting on the same, Fr. Alar seemed a bit critical of the rationale for the manner in which the celebrations took place in the Vatican (see from approximately 05:25 to 05:54 – emphasis mine), saying:
“…even Nostra aetate that says it recognizes truths in religion. Even Vatican II itself said while other religions have partial truth or a remnant some of the truth, only the Catholic faith has the fullness of the truth. And that’s Vatican II itself that is making such a statement. So I’m not sure why now that we are going back on this and making it even a worse understanding than it was since the days of Vatican II”
Turn back the clock
- In 1986 Pope (Saint) John Paul II called for a World Day of Prayer for Peace (dated October 27, 1986) in Assisi (Italy), intended to foster religious dialogue through an interfaith gathering of different religions and faiths (Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims, etc. – where Buddhists placed a statue of Buddha on the altar) leading to scandal among a section of Catholics, especially such as Archbishop Lefebvre of the SSPX.
- In October 2011, Pope Benedict XVI convened a “Day of Reflection, Dialogue and Prayer for Peace and Justice in the World” in Assisi again – although similar to the meeting initiated by Pope John Paul II in 1986, Benedict was somewhat circumspect with the publication ‘Time’ citing that “each faith met for separate devotions” & “no interreligious rite was used; individual delegates gave their own invocations”.
- Not to be outdone, Francis (pope) in 2016 repeated John Paul II’s initiative – on the 30th anniversary of the initiative by his predecessor.
- Francis followed this up during his Apostolic Journey to Singapore in 2024, where during an event with a group of young people on the subject of interreligious dialogue, he blurted out that infamous declaration that “All religions are paths to God”.
I am sure Fr. Alar is aware that Vatican II (Nostra aetate) recommended that,
“The Catholic Church rejects nothing that is true and holy in these religions”
And
“…often reflect a ray of that Truth which enlightens all men.”
And
“The Church, therefore, exhorts her sons, that through dialogue and collaboration with the followers of other religions, carried out with prudence and love and in witness to the Christian faith and life, they recognize, preserve and promote the good things, spiritual and moral, as well as the socio-cultural values found among these men.” (paragraph §2 – emphasis mine)
And now in 2025, Prevost (Leo XIV – pope) organized an anniversary celebration for Nostra Aetate. So why does any of this surprise Fr. Alar & why is it a cause of scandal? Why is this all so jarring and ‘disturbing’ to him and JHW? In keeping with the exhortation by his worthy predecessors and the “tradition” since Vatican II, Prevost (pope) is doing exactly what other Popes have done.
The disconnect
“No one possesses the whole truth; we must all humbly seek it and seek it together”
Notice that Fr. Alar says only the Catholic faith has the fullness of the truth (as per Vatican II), while the Pope himself contradicts this by saying “No one possesses the whole truth”.
But Prevost’s clumsy logic aside, Vatican II itself contradicted the entirety of Church teachings prior to 1965.
How? When Fr. Alar speaks of “truths in religion” (in accordance with Vatican II’s Nostra aetate, he implicitly adopts a position that the pre-conciliar (prior to Vatican II) Magisterium explicitly rejected.
If “truths in religion” (per Nostra Aetate) was indeed a tenable view before Vatican II, why didn’t earlier Popes’ allow for such ‘exceptions’? What we see instead was repeated condemnations of such views. For just a minor sampling, take Pope Pius IX’s Syllabus of Errors which explicitly condemns such “truths in religion” in paragraph § 15 to 17 ( § 15 is a clear example of a notion that stood condemned – emphasis mine)
15. Every man is free to embrace and profess that religion which, guided by the light of reason, he shall consider true.
Similar views were also echoed by Popes Leo XIII, Gregory XVI & Pope Pius X (among others). Which is why St. Cyprian’s Extra Ecclesiam Nulla Salus (Translated: Outside the Church there is no salvation), was a way of pre conciliar life.
What Fr. Alar & others overlook is that Pope Benedict XVI acknowledged that the Vatican II documents of Nostra Aetate (in addition to Gaudium et Spes & Dignitatis Humanae, ) were essentially “counter-Syllabus” – implicitly acknowledging that the council of Vatican II opposed & violated the Syllabus of errors of Pope Pius IX.
The slow-release conservative and the ultraliberal modernists
What does this mean?
Fr. Alar will have to accept (at some point) that Vatican II allowed for revolutionary ideas. One of the facets of such revolutions are that they are inadvertently progressive with the next generation of revolutionaries always dissatisfied with the current level of ‘progress’ – they will always have something ‘new’ to push towards. Once the boundaries of their ambition are crossed, the revolutionaries of the next generation rise up – unsatisfied by the progress of the previous regime, there is ever an upward march – following a trajectory of the hypotenuse of their never-ending goals. And those who are trying to hold on to ideas from the past and & refuse to move along with the march of progress, will end up being thrown under the bus at some point – take Dr. Ralph Martin & co. from Sacred Heart Major Seminary who was/were fired by a Bergoglio-Prevost installed Bishop from Detroit, as a case in point.
Fr. Alar can surely see that Prevost (pope) is picking up pace, take for example the following that has transpired in quick succession over the last few months:
- His infamous meeting with James Martin SJ,
- The LGBTQ Mass fiasco at St. Peters during the jubilee celebrations,
- His defense of Cardinal Cupich,
- His views that we don’t have all the truths on the matter of abortion,
- His view that “No one possesses the whole truth..” in context to religion,
- His goal on completing the vision of synodality – a ‘Chernobyl’ in the making.
The above are all solidifying the plans of Bergoglio & the Saint Gallen Mafia. It is thus increasingly becoming clear that Prevost means every word when he says he wants the church to progress towards the vision of Bergoglio. And if conservatives like Fr. Alar were ever worried about the damage Bergoglio may have done to the Church, then they need to pay close attention to Prevost – every indication we have seen so far tells us that us the smiling Pope is a hand-picked aide of the revolution whose only job is to ensure that the core of Bergoglio’s vision (synodality) falls neatly in place – once the ground work is complete, it will be time for Prevost’s successor, maybe a more hyper-revolutionary than himself, to take over the revolution – and by that time, the Burke’s , Sarah’s, and Alar’s will very likely be out of the way.
As Chris Jackson recently stated:
Leo is not an explosion. He is cement. His entire strategy is to let Bergoglian errors harden quietly until they are indistinguishable from Catholicism.
Jackson also stated somewhere else that if something is not done about the situation, in another 20 years of Prevost’s pontificate, those over 40 will know nothing but Bergoglian Catholicism (paraphrased from memory, as I was unable to locate the exact post for this quote – My bad. The man posts articles faster than I can read!) – this is a horrific worry!
Conservatives from the John Paul II & Benedict XVI era will have to start getting used to the Vatican II revolution they swear was a ‘valid’ council. They are no longer living in the era of Vatican II, but in the end game now (to cite a popular meme).

We have already entered the multiverse of Bergoglian synodality where anything & everything goes – everything except authentic, vintage Catholicism (aka Traditional Catholicism) that is.
Today being the 04th of November, a document is expected from the Vatican on Mary as ‘Co-Redemptrix’, with sources indicating that Prevost will follow the path laid down by Bergoglio’s – of rejecting Mary as Co-Redemptrix. One can only shudder in expectant-horror if this is true. What monstrosity and travesty awaits the Mother of God, and us in turn, will soon be unravelled today. Perhaps it may lead to more controversy. Or maybe it will be a dud tome. We will have to wait & see.
Ave Maria
