5 things that gave Leo away

Summary: The top five clues that gave Leo away and proved he is indeed Francis 2.0 albeit shrouded with a ‘seamless garment’

In my commentary on May 9th 2025, after the election of Prevost, I had made the following observations:

Prevost had come to the conclave as a known supporter of Pope Francis’s key initiative: Synodality. With Synodality being the lens with which Pope Leo XIV sees the Church, I don’t think that we can expect much from Prevost.

The first red flag, which I noted but charitably suppressed was the pursuit of the goals of his predecessor (synodality) that Prevost considered noteworthy to mention in his inaugural address as Pope.

The second red flag came 10 days later after Prevost’s election, where he claimed that he felt the spirit of Bergoglio, stating:

“During Mass, I strongly felt the spiritual presence of Pope Francis accompanying us from heaven.”

Now that’s one hell of a way (pun unintended) to make the case for a dear departed mentor to be canonized!

The third red flag came in some of Leo’s appointments – Roche, Tagle, Parolin and Fernandez were sufficient indicators – but then Sister Titzia Merleti, & Shane Mackinlay from Australia raised eyebrows and added more support to what we could continue to expect from Prevost.

The fourth flag – TLM politics; Trigger happy sharpshooters Weisenburger and Martin (Bishops) from Detroit and Charlotte respectively decided that now was the time to implement Traditionis Custodes in their dioceses. And the American Pope did nothing to restore confidence to the distraught faithful or indicate that the end was in sight for the TLM persecution. Add to that was the exposé by Diane Montagna that revealed the decisions taken by Bergoglio in implementing Traditionis Custodes & shutting down the TLM, was baseless at best, and shockingly deceitful at worse. However, the manner in which the Vatican press spokesperson Matteo Bruni hand waved the whole thing under the carpet suggested that he had the hand of the American ‘Big Brother’ on his shoulder. The whole ‘exposé’, which was shocking in its revelations, disappeared from public memory soon after this press conference.

One of the aspects that separated Prevost from his Argentinian mentor was the subject of abortion. While Bergoglio did lend his unanimous support to the pro life cause, Prevost seemed to have a disclaimer attached to his support. While a Cardinal in 2023 itself, he had balanced his pro life views with something known as ‘the Seamless Garment’ theology, propagated by another warped and twisted modernist prelate from Chicago, Cardinal Joseph Bernardin, who was shrewd enough to posit that all moral and social issues of the day belonged on the same weighing scale of justice; there were no bigger or smaller sins or crimes – they all carried the same weight, the same density, and the same seriousness, or the lack of it. Thus, Cardinal Prevost, having drunk from the wisdom of St. Bernardin, would say this in 2023:

“A Catholic cannot claim to be pro-life just to take a stance against abortion, while at the same time saying they are in favor of the death penalty. That would not be consistent with the Church’s social doctrine.”

and it would all come full circle when Prevost would repeat the above ‘new and improved theology’ to a random media personnel in defense of his ally and also mentor Cardinal Blaise Cupich, who had thrown himself in the middle of a controversy by deciding to award a Democrat pro-abortion senator, Dick Durbin, a lifetime achievement award. With all the American Catholic talking heads exploding over the audacity of Cupich, Leo stepped into the boat to calm the waters by repeating the similar ingenious theology as he did in 2023 (albeit making a few additional statements that exposed his abject relativism).

“Someone who says ‘I’m against abortion but says I am in favor of the death penalty’ is not really pro-life,” and “Someone who says that ‘I’m against abortion, but I’m in agreement with the inhuman treatment of immigrants in the United States,’ I don’t know if that’s pro-life.”

Thus in the pro-life matter, Prevost was ready to walk a slightly different path compared to his late predecessor.

But Prevost continued in his desire to be more and more like his papa from another papa. When Donald Trump, the man his papa disliked more than any other, gave a speech at the UN decrying and shooting down Climate change as a hoax, Prevost and team decided to bless ice. Where papa Bergoglio blessed the Pachamama deity, Prevost summoned the Snow Queen from Narnia blessing the Eskimos and the penguins to go forth and multiply. Sorry. Make that ‘divide’. Or ‘subtract’.

And so the games continue. And it is as though those among the inner circle of Prevost, namely the USCCB, have a sense of humour. I mean they would have to. First, some wise guy perhaps suggested that Prevost should go with a traditional papal title. Then someone made him don the mozetta and the stole worn by Pope Benedict XVI. And still someone else convinced him to publicly voice prayers or a mass in Latin. Maybe it was all done by the same wicked mastermind. Either that, or Prevost, an obvious seamless garment modernist, thought of all these gimmicks himself. My money is on an insider USCCB PR team whose PR drill seems to have been stupendously executed. Trads lapped up the theatrics and turned into papal watch-dogs and bodyguards overnight. Those who criticized Prevost were immediately silenced with insults, name calling, and gas lighting to the extent that those who criticized Bergoglio were now criticizing other Trads!

This side show in duplicity has prevailed. The Trads don’t really know what to make of Prevost, who on one hand continues to flaunt himself openly, his actions and words literally begging them: “Look at me you fools. I am Francis 2.0!” But on the other hand, the charade of Latin chants, vestments, and other stage-managed theatrics continue to keep the Trads spellbound, glued to the edge of their seats, as though entranced by a magician about to perform his final trick, hopeful for their next permission to have the TLM restored. How pathetic.

Just how have we got to a stage in Catholicism that a Pope no less, is this evidently deceptive that he needs to dress in traditional garb and say a few prayers in Latin, all while very evidently believing things that are at odds with the entirety of the faith?

Ave Maria
